Is it possible to update the firmware of a camcorder ? For still digital cameras manafactures sometimes provide an update (via internet) of the firmware to solve problems experienced by consumers.

While it's technically possible to do this, I'm not aware of Canon ever offering updated firmware for any of it's Video Cameras...and I don't know of any current upgrades for the gl2...Chris might have more information on this.

Sometimes such an upgrade is needed, but it's very rare. You can't do it by yourself, though, because a special tool/setup is required. I had such an upgrade performed on one of my PAL NV-MX300A this past year. That entailed sending it to Panasonic Australia because Panasonic Canada/US did not have the tools. Panasonic paid for everything, though! Some of Sony's older cams also needed this. The trouble is these companies do not advertise when such an upgrade may be needed (otherwise they would be flooded with requests---whether the cam needed it or not).

OK I will ask again, Odessa, Barry, Frank,,, is there any issue with the GL2 that you know of that would require a firmware upgrade in order to resolve it?

Would love to hear your input in case you have actually experienced any issues with the GL2 that need to be addressed.

I just asked the firmware update question because in digital still photography it happens often. Sometimes to solve a problem encountered by prosumers sometimes to add or improve features. So I was just curious if it is also done with digital camcorders

Sorry, I don't know of any problems with the GL2 nor do I know of such a firmware update. What GL2 problems are you referring to?
