Anyone out there doing live switching using professional analogue switchers like the km-1200 with genlockable cameras?

I have a km-1200 mixer that I'd like to use for switching live performances. I'd be locking genlockable cameras to a non genlockable camera such as an XL1s.

My area of experience is in EFP and being a commercial DP so I have little knowledge when it comes to pricing a 3-4 camera switch with the final mix feeding large screen projectors and a record deck. (the venue will be supplying the projection screens and projectors)

I would like the pricing information to be relevant to 3-4 cameras and operators, the km-1200, Tech Director, and Director. If anyone could shed some light on the subject it would be appreciated.

used to own a jvc km1200. very reliable piece of equipment. if you need to work with non genlockable camera, you can only do that with one such camera through the fifth source. and this will also have to work as the master lock sign as well, a bit risky i would say.

A mixer with TBCs/frame synchronizers can work with non-genlock cameras. Those are about $2500USD now. On eBay, you may be able to pickup a discontinued Videonics MX-1 which originally retailed for $1000 (although that mixer has some issues/catches).

2- What kind of pricing are you looking at?
Are you renting or buying the equipment?
Are you hiring a company, or putting together the production yourself?

3- Why not just rent another genlockable camera?

4- (I suppose Ed's post answers your question as it seems you can use the XL1s fine? Unless it's risky.)
