Can someone confirm that when you digitize HDV footage in FCP5 using the Apple Intermediate Codec that it does not record the Timecode with the video file? I discovered this while digitizing a tape from the Sony Z1U and letting FCP5 do the automatic scene detect on the HDV footage.

I am working on an article comparing render/conform times between the two systems and had a fit when I found out my AIC timeline wasn't going to match my HDV native timeline frame for frame because of the lack of TC.

If AIC doesn't do timecode that is a big problem.

FCP 5 can capture HDV in its native format. Final Cut Express HD and iMovie HD capture using the AIC.

FCP5 can also capture in AIC, and there are some advantages and disadvantages of doing that - one of them being no time code.

Another disadvantage is the awful quality!
