How much camera noise does this mic pick up? I am thinking about using it to shoot a wedding but want to make sure that the mic can pick up clear audio from a distance and that there is minimal camera noise. Any help would be great.

Like most on-camera mics the GL2's is a 2-channel omnidirectional, meaning that it will pick up nearly everything in a nearly spherical pattern. The "camera sounds" that these cameras pick up are generally the sounds of the lens' zoom servo motor.

If you want "clean" audio wire the groom with a wireless mic. The on-camera mic is not useful for distance or controlled, professional audio.

If I asked a question that straightforward, I would want an answer that straightforward, so here it is:

It sucks.

At minimum, go with the Canon DM-50 for the shoe. With some t.l.c. from Sound Forge, you can clean it up well. But if you want pro, obviously go with Ken's solution.

In an environment like that, the problem will be ambient/background noise, not camera noise. And even the highly regarded AT-897 is going to pick up enough noise to spoil your wedding video. Get a mic on the groom.
