Hello, Everyone

I am Tanya Duvic, I live in Northern California, in the shadow of Mount Shasta, and I have a Canon XL2.

I am originally from Texas - Hometown is Houston, lived about 9 years in San Antonio and 4 years ago I moved from Dallas to Humboldt County, CA. We packed up and moved to The Mountain in May.

About a year ago I started writing screenplays and developing a television series. Recently I started taking courses on television production and everything clicked.... this is it.

I'm working on a master plan. - I just uh...don't quite know how to execute it. I got this nifty Canon then I found this place and uh.... I guess next my goal is to shoot everything I see : )

Yeah, so - that's it -

Total newb here so please be gentle.

Hi Tanya, I bet you're liking the NorCal weather much better than Texas... just a guess though. Welcome aboard,

Hi Tanya:

I am a little farther south than you , but I often travel that way to visit family in Klamant Falls and Bly, Oregon. What kind of camera are you shooting.

I am doing things similar to you in terms of developing projects. Stay in touch, and lets us know what you are doing. Clips and photos are always great.

Thanks for the welcome.

Chris: The weather here is fabulous. There are four definite seasons on this side of the state. I have not yet experienced a true winter since I was a child so we'll see how much fun a white Christmas really is. I know this sure does beat gray, cloudy, always overcast Eureka and it sure beats the heck out of Texas heat + humid.

Other Chris:

I've got a Canon XL2 - It's used, recently refurbed and came with a JVC tape reader/recorder and a wireless lav so I'm happy. : )

I uh... must be very honest here I suppose. I've been kind of scared to use it and have only recently taken a short short video of my kiddo and her friend yukkin' it up in the living room. I was hoping I would learn some things here and gain some confidence before I take it out and about.

I think I'm mostly afraid I'm going to break it lol

Thanks again for the welcome... see ya around.

Tanya

Hi Tanya,

Hello from Sonoma, CA, just north of San Francisco!

If you'd like to team up sometime, my small crew is always looking for short film scripts to shoot, and we're always looking for people to collaborate with.

Welcome to DVI, this is a great place!

You're giving me flashbacks, Tanya.

Eight years ago I wrung my hands over laying down $3700 on a brand new XL1s. When the box arrived I was afraid to even open it; my son had to put the camera together for me. Then it sat for three days until my friend was free to try it out. Like I'd break it just turning it on...

Now I grab up cameras as the great tools they are and USE them. If something breaks we can get them fixed. :)

The only thing I baby on mine (XH A1) is the tape assembly. And I'm kind of careful with the firewire port.

As for the workhorse XL1s, it's still going strong, even though it's been through quite a bit. Now I use it to shoot Web video of foster dogs in need of adoption.

So if you'd like a little hand-holdin' we're right here. And ask all the questions you want. In no time you'll be knocking our socks off with some great video!
