I just looked at the box on my shelf and FCP3 will work with Mac OS 9.2.2 or X 10.1.1 (and I assume v10.2.)

I hope you didn't mean FCS3 because it requires MacOS X 10.5.6 or newer.

As Tim said, do you mean Final Cut Pro 3, released in 2001-2002 somewhere, or if you are talking about Final Cut Pro 7, which is part of Final Cut STUDIO 3, released in august.
For the last one you at least need 10.5.6.

If it's Final Cut Studio 3, here's the list of official requirements: Apple - Final Cut Studio - Tech Specs and System Requirements (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/)

I believe that in some cases it's possible to run it on slightly less than that, but it's "not supported"

I can't imagine why not.

From what I've read up on it, it looks like it could run in either OS 9 or OS X (10.1), and although could minimally run on a G3, had some optimized factors for G4, so would probably run fine on any pre-Intel G4 MAC up through OS X 10.4.

I would think it should run fine in 10.2.8.
