I want to buy a camcorder to capture my video footage from my camcorder to my computer harddrive. This camcorder I buy will 90% of the time be used for this purpose only. I do own a Canon GL2 and do not want to wear my heads out, less wear and tear. So I would like to find a camcorder to do the capture to my harddrive only.
Does it matter what brand I use as long as it is a mini dv? (I would also like not to go over $300 for a purchase)

Just get the cheapest miniDV cam you can find :)

Brand shouldn't matter too much.

If you're looking for something nice, look at the Optura 20 (~$400 refurb on eBay [warning: eBay can be sketchy]) and Panasonic GS70 or the newer versions of them.
Top loading- bottom loading can get annoying
analog-digital passthrough
good camcorders if you want a b roll camera. Optura 20 is like 3CCD cameras, the GS70 is 3CCD (although they are still cheap cameras and won't give as good image quality as more expensive stuff).

Otherwise I don't think it's a big deal what you get.
