I have been a dedicated Panasonic P2 user for years, but have recently started to look at AVCHD camcorders because of their ability to record 1080p 60fps video at 28 Mbs. Having just read the Wikipedia entry on AVCHD, it appears that all AVCHD recordings are in 4:2:0 format. If this is true, can this format compare in color quality to Panasonic's DVCPRO HD or Canon's 50 Mbs MPEG-2, which are both 4:2:2 ? Does anyone know if any broadcasters have certified AVCHD as acceptable for broadcast ? Any comments from people out there using both AVCHD and one of the 4:2:2 codecs ?

Contact the broadcasters with whom you wish to deal to see what they will accept. For news content is king. Even VHS is OK if it is newsworthy and the only available footage.

Many people express concern about using 4:2:0 for chromakey purposes.
