Anyone have any input on what's going on, or what will happen after this rebate goes away? I've been monitoring the GL-2 prices on B&H for a little while now (in the hopes of eventually buying one) and we all know this $250 rebate will be up on Sept. 30. About a month ago the GL-2 was listed at $1985.00, which it had been for a while. Then about two weeks ago it jumped up to $2095.00. I just checked B&H again today and it skyrocketed to $2295.00!! What is going on here?! I was about to get one and now the rebate isn't even worth it anymore. Any feedback is appreciated....

True, it is hard to understand the jump in price. This is the second time I've seen it, and it eventually came back down. It must have to do with what B&H pays for each shipment and/or any agreements they might have with Canon. Or, since there is a large number of people like you who have been undecided for a long time, demand may have spiked due to speculation about discontinuance of the GL2 now that Canon has an HD offering.

The rebate has been extended many times, and probably will be again, but no guarantees since the context is now changing in unpredictable ways with Canon's new HD cam.

B&H has at least one reputable competitor still advertising at just under $2000, but no one is quite as dependable as B&H. Why not give them a call and ask them what's going on? Sometimes they'll negotiate.

Is it ok to say who that reputable competitor is? I am considering buying 2 or 3 GL2s to use videoing hunts.

We only discuss DVinfo sponsors here since they make this site possible. For a full list see the following:

Please use private e-mail otherwise. Thanks for your understanding.

I understand that. So, is this "reputable competitor" not a sponsor?

I was just about to buy one from BH until I found out they raised their prices over the weekend. So, instead of giving them my business I bought it from the "reputable dealer" that was mentioned here, for $1985 after rebate.

Should be here in the morning. Can't wait!!!

BTW Great site! So glad I found it.
