Looks like another new 4k camera has been leaked.

"There will be a PXW-Z100 4k xavc xdcam for 6500€ Excl taxes for europe"

They are calling it an "XDCAM" so it looks like Sony will keep that brand moving forward into 4k as well.

Anyone care to speculate about this baby?

1/2 inch sensors or 2/3?

Very interesting!

It seems to look a lot like the previously mentioned FDR-AX1.

Here's a European site that is ready to sell it. It's the same pic as the FDR-AX1. But they do call it an XDCAM, instead of a Handycam.

Alister mentioned a while back on this forum he was under NDA. I bet this is why. He's used the XDCam version of the 4K cam. Maybe that's the upper model that many mentioned. 1 in the prosumer/consumer range FDR-AX1 then the PXW-Z100. 4:2:0 4K then the upper gets 4:2:2 4K. We'll find out tonight I guess!

This makes sense. I'm still saying 1/3" chips, no more than 1/2", because of the 20x zoom.

I agree with that! Sony just released the PMW300 which will have a FW update to do XAVC for HFR. Any 4K XDCAM model will cost more then that one if using the same size chips. Keeping it at 1/3" will help get rid of the PMW160 which is hardly talked about on many forums. It could replace that model easily.

I think the other differences will be that the Pro models will use XAVC and the prosumer and lower models in the NX range will use XAVC-S which will likely be a higher compressions encoder to use less memory and lower data rates. This PXW-Z range could be a new range replacing the NX AVCHD range in the lineup though.

I might not be a fan of the NXCAM design on the XDCAM brand. I expect a completely different design more attune to the PMW-200.

If they can pull off 60p, I'll only judge based on the sensor and sensitivity.

I'll have a 'first look' report on the Z100 done soon. It will be up here: PXW-Z100 (PXWZ100) : Product Overview : United Kingdom : Sony Professional (http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/product/pxw-z100/overview?utm_campaign=matt-davis&utm_medium=affiliatebanner) - meanwhile, there's the obligatory geek version of the 'Dance of the Seven Veils' over here:
