Hi Everyone,

Considering the HM600 for both ENG and green screen (talking head on virtual set).

1. Is it true that, though the HM600 has 12-bit 4:4:4 sensors (according to JVC marketing), it apparently only records to 4:2:0, even at 50 mbps, even with the new firmware?

2. Does either its HDMI or SDI output offer 1080p 4:2:2 (even if only 8-bit), or is it interlaced, 4:2:0?

3. Has anyone tested, or would anyone be willing to test, the HM600/650 for green screen? Don't see any tests online.

Thanks a lot,
Tom

The recorded signal is 4:2:0 on the SD cards. The SDI output is 4:2:2. You need an external recorder to capture that.

Thanks, William, I appreciate your help. Yes, I would capture with a Blackmagic capture card for green screen.

Do you know if it's 8-bit or 10-bit; and can output full 1080 progressive?

EDIT: My bad, HD-SDI is only 1080i, so I guess it would not output 1080/60p but would output 1080/30p albeit over an interlaced signal (if that makes sense)?

And does the HDMI out have the same limitation?

Thanks,
Tom

Let me get with JVC for some answers. That camera is $2995 right now with the $1200 instant rebate applied.

I believe that HD-SDI and HDMI have the same specs regarding interlace. (and yes, 30p is sent cleanly as well as 24P). I know HD-SDI is 10bit but HDMI I am not sure.
