View Full Version : For how long must new members wait until permitted to post? Been a month now

A new DVI member created and got her DVI account activated around July 20-25, and is still not permitted to post in any threads here. (I sent an email to CH through this site about this specific issue a few weeks ago).

Maybe the summer season has delayed the process?

CH or maybe the wranglers, please help!

Hi Trond

I have a feeling that Chris Hurd is on his Summer Vacation .. I asked via post and email about creating a new Panasonic Bridge camera forum at the end of July and have yet to have any response and Chris, although busy, normally is very prompt so I would suspect he is doing ski jumps on the slopes in Switzerland or on vacation somewhere exotic

Be patient : he will attend to you as soon as he is able .. he is one of the "good guys"

Thanks for the input, Chris.
Yes, summer is busy times for most people, and vacation can certainly be the (very valid) reason for delayed response.

They'll probably get on to this right after they finish editing and republish a lengthy discussion we had on Adobe Creative Suite and whether to stay with CS6 or do the 'rental' option.

Clearly forums do not run themselves, and if manual authorisation is a requirement, then common sense says this should be shared among other people. Holidays and illnesses happen, so surely when this happens somebody else should be able to free up these new accounts? Keeping control is very sensible, if you have the time, if not, then spread the weight?

Well, they kind of do that already. I thought the post pre-approval process only lasted for the first ten posts (or so). It's been a while for me.

It's true, I have been away from the desk recently.

I approve *all* new accounts by hand, and yes there is a waiting period to get in. Two strong suggestions:

1. Send me an email, and I'll expedite the process.

2. Make sure the name on the email matches the name on the account (unless, of course, you're contacting me on behalf of another person's account). After all, this is strictly a real-names-only forum. If you've registered with a pseudonym or an anonymous handle, that's not going to work (and if that is the case, let me know if I can update the username on your account so that you can get in). Whatever you do, *don't* register another account; multiples are verboten and are locked out automatically. Now -- if you're certain everything is good to go, and you've sent me an email, and still nothing happens -- then send *another* email. Persistence pays off!

Hope this helps,

Hi Trond, I've just replied to your email. In your particular case regarding your friend's account, it was not a matter of just awaiting activation... instead there was an issue with that particular account which I have described in my private reply to you, which I was not aware of all this time, until I knew the details that you provided in your email. That issue is now resolved and she's in. Hope this helps,
