I have been thinking of getting an Asus Ultra-Wide monitor, but the one thing I'm reluctant about is whether the curved surface has any impact on video and photo editing. Does the curved monitor have any impact on how you can see straight lines and that sort of thing? Or does it only matter what angle you are viewing from?

I have not used curved monitor but my common sense tells me it would be no good for critical video/photo editing because of scewed lines.
I am in the same boat, deciding between curved ultrawide of 4K monitor...

Tried it and didn't like it.

You mean you tried the Ultra Wide and didn't like it?

Most likely I will just go for 4K monitor, just deciding to get regular 4K or HDR 4K...

Yes, I tried a curved monitor for editing and didn't like it.

You guys have cheered me up! I recently had the choice between an all-in-one computer with an ultra-wide curved screen for editing, or a high spec. laptop and use my existing flat panel monitor. Mainly due to price, I went laptop, I'm glad I did now.

My sense is the curved monitors are cool for gaming. A bit more immersive and all that.

But for production, I stay away from funhouse mirrors/monitors. :-)

Flat earth baby!

i've been on the lookout for a replacement for my LG 30 inch monitor, it's got a thin green line down the right side these days it goes away after about 30 minutes or so. I guess eventually it might fail altogether!

I was considering one of these;

they can be bought in Europe for around €550.00

Wouldn't go near a curved screen for editing!

Well, I did end up purchasing a curved ultra-wide. (An LG model). An offer showed up on Amazon that I could not refuse. Using my 22" flat monitor as my preview monitor, I've decided that the ultra-wide is an asset. In most cases I can view the entire timeline at reasonable zoom amounts and then use my calibrated flat monitor assessing the video.
