So what is the story on the new XA11/G21?

Hi,

the Story is:
They are cheaper (rough 500,-) then previously XA30 / Vixia G40.
Because no more WLAN.
Because no more Wireless infrared Remote.
Because an 3" Display (non OLED), before it is an 3,5" Display as OLED.

So the same as before with less Features and a lower pricepoint.

And with release of the HF-G21, the HF-G20 has now been discontinued.

Inevitable at some point I suppose, but a pity in some respects. Lower price-point aside, a large part of it's 'legacy appeal' was undoubtedly the smaller size and weight that made for comfortable single handed operation, at least compared to the HF-G30 (the original 'flagship' successor), and now the HF-G40.

Interesting that the HF-G21 now being promoted (by B&H at least) as it's replacement, is the same size as the HF-G40 and only 20g lighter, according to the specs. I wonder if it will have the same appeal as the HF-G20 did.

And now B&H have the HF-G20 in stock again:

Likely they were initially notified by Canon that production has or will be discontinued but there is inventory in the distribution network to be cleared. Or maybe they read my last post ;>)

I read always very goods reviews about these camcorders (XA30/XA35/XA11/XA15)
they have 20x zoom and a fast 1.8 - 2.8 F stop. the reviewers always say the low light is very good.

(I looked at B&H, amazon, ... reviews)

But how this camcorder compare against a 1 inch sensor camcorder? Is the low light better/worse?

I see XA40/45/50/55 & G60 announced to be out in July

Specs are a bit sketchy - things like 10-bit and 4:2:2 and not clear

B&H pre-order price points do not seem too outrageous..

Wonder if they will generate any buzz?

I see that the models vary a little between NTSC- and PAL-Land, I have not seen a PAL 45, but the 50 looks really nice. The 1" sensor, DPAF and 4K are very tempting. Meanwhile my HF200's turn ten this year and are still use every week, bless their cotton socks!
