With the new XL H1 coming out, I'm surprised to see prices on the XL2 staying the same ($4000 street price or so). It seems overpriced in this market now... any word of a forthcoming price drop?

Not really... you can already get them for as low as $3699 and these cams are aimed at 2 very different markets.

Since it's been made very clear from Canon that they have no future plans of dropping the miniDV line of XL cameras. Will we see an XL2s? I'm trying to figure what significant improvements can be made to this camera beyond, perhaps, including a manual lens like the JVC as I feel the camera is, in may ways, an almost perfect miniDV camera. (that's a personal opinion).
Plus, would it even be worth their time to continue selling an expensive although great, MiniDV camera a year or two from now when HD is steadily creeping in?

Two years is a lifetime in tech development. Will an entirely NEW format of HDV or HD with an as yet developed Solid State capture card be available???

If you can make money with the piece of equipment NOW, buy it NOW. At the most, with the income generated from a resale at a later date, it will still make you money.

If you can wait... wait. Something new and better is ALWAYS around the corner.

With the new XL H1 coming out, I'm surprised to see prices on the XL2 staying the same The primary reason for this is due to the fact that the XL H1 does *not* replace the XL2. The XL H1 is simply a new addition to the Canon product line; the XL2 remains as a current offering in the lineage and also serves as the flagship of their standard definition DV camcorder range. Thus, no reason to drop the price.
