I can only seem to select hdv options in the menu on my 101 and not Standard def. Any thoughts apprecatiated.

The first time I tested my camera it didn't record in DV mode, when I pressed record there was this system error message "Turn power off, turn back on later". Than, after a few tries it started recording in DV. I told it to my dealler anyway and he sent me a firmware update for the VCR. You should contact your dealler and maybe he can help you like mine did. I can send you this update, but my camera is a HD101E PAL... I wouldn't risk to install this update on a diferent unit.

I actually have the same model and am based in the UK. I will contact the dealer.
