Just monitor your footage on an external monitor with a DV device doing the digital-analog conversion.

Ill give that a go Glen, Is that what most people do, i.e not wory about the darkness?

The Mac gamma issue affects computer monitors, but not external non-computer monitors.

By computer monitors, I mean computer monitors connected to your computer's video cards.

External monitors would be those connected to a firewire device, or a hardware capture card (aja, decklink, etc.).
