I've heard that its not great for the heads if you import with your camera straight into the computer. I've heard it suggested that its best to get a lower end camera to import the footage to save the heads. I've also used dubbing decks before, but those are really expsensive. Any recommendations would be great.

I've had my GL2 for almost 3 years now, and haven't had any problems using it as a capture device. However, I didn't want to push my luck so I just purchased a Elura 100 which I will use from this point on as my source machine for video captures. Nice little camera at a reasonable price.

There have been discussions on this board about a possibility of blowing out your firewire on your GL2 by hooking it up to your computer. I myself bought a ZR700 to save my GL2 from a possible problem later in life. $300.00 insurance card... Plus it saves the transport mechanism and motors from early failier.
