Hello,
I have a canon gl2 and it keeps telling me the record head is dirty way too often than it should. Each time It tells me this I clean it with a recording head cleaning tape but it gives me this message about every fifteen minuetes of filming. Has anyone else had this problem or know what may be going on? Replay would really be appriciated.

Do you use a new tape after cleaning or the same dirty tape?
It would help to have more information about the age of the camera and specific usage.

The problem started when I put in a new tape and after each time that I cleaned it I used the same tape as I had no alternative. The camera was purchased used in 2004 but it was in perfect condition then. So far it hasn't been used very rigorously and is still in very good condition.

Did you mix brands of tape or are all the tapes the same brand?

the tape that I was using when the problem started was a different type than what I usually use. Now that I think about that more the more it seems that could be the problem.

You'll need to send it in to Canon factory service for a professional cleaning.

From what I have read it isn't so much the brand but keeping to one particular brand.
I have only ever used sony tapes, premiums, and have never had the problem (yet). My cameras get lots of use, probably 200 days a year.
I once was forced to buy two jvc tapes and only kept them as back ups and used one for about 10 minutes. Probably good to follow the advice of using one tape.
