I read on a site a while back this guy wrote a script that disabled the cpu checks that disabled certian features of FCP (I think it was certain aspects of realtime playback)... does anyone remember what I'm talking about or know where this guys site is? I know he was forced by apple to remove the script from the download but I'd still like to visit his site and read about it again.

I remember that, but not the specifics. However I think we're going back to the days when people were running FCP3 under MacOS 9. FCP3 had pretty limited realtime performance.
