Has anyone experienced any connectivity issues connecting a Sony DSR-PD170 to a Mac with Final Cut Express HD?

The reason I ask is because I've read (elsewhere) accounts of Sony cameras not being recognized by Apple OS X and FCE. Before I buy a Mac, I want to guarantee compatibility.

Any first-hand accounts (positive/negative) would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have an intel Mac, and I use FCP. But I've never experienced any problems with Sony cameras. I've used a VX-2000, PDX-10 and Z1. No problems with a variety of different Macs.

I wasn't aware of any problems with the PD-170 and Macs - perhaps it's related to the Intel machines? I know there have been some firewire issues with older Canon camcorders, but there are usually fixes for this.

Hello,

We have two PD170s that have been in service with our FCP (versions 4, 4.5 and now 5) systems for three years without any problems. We've also used them with iMovie without any trouble.

Not with the PD-170. Works great with FCP, FCE, OS X. Only problem might have been a QuickTime update issue a few years ago that affected a number of cameras and deck.
