I want to buy just one book on recording audio for film and I'm looking for suggestions.

We shoot dramatic films under controlled conditions so we have some control over the types of problems you have recording audio during "live" events.

However we don't have much budget for sound equiptment. We have a cheap shotgun, wireless lapels etc. and we've been able to get decent results so far without any expert guidance, but we're looking to take it up a notch on this next project so I'm looking for a book with practical advice and not just a laundry list of expensive audio tools.

If you could only have one book on recording audio for film, what would it be?

Film as in chemical emulsion film or "film production" recorded on videotape?

No one book will have it all but I can recommend "Sound for Film and Video" by Thomlinson Holman (he's the 'TH' in 'THX Sound')

We'll be shooting on DV.

I've seen that book referenced elsewhere (Sound for Film and Video), and if the author's credit is any indication, sounds like a great book to start with.

Thanks Steve,
