What is the best way to achieve a quick focus from background to foreground image manually with the GL2?

1 - Set camera in MANUAL or AUTO Mode

2 - Click/Engage the Manual Focus by clicking the MF Button

3 - Use the Focus Ring to adjust

Now, getting to EXACTLY where you want, lickety-spit, you'd need a focus puller with a nice big white wheel and a crayon. I suppose you could put some kind of marks to marry up focus ring with a set point on your camera?

I just use manual focus and trial and error. Usually 2 or 3 practice turns with the focus is enough to get a shot that works.

Set camera to manual focus, focus to background, place foreground subject in center of shot, release focus back to auto at the appropriate time.

No guess work needed, if its not practicle to place the subject in the center of the shot, where the auto focus is aimed at, then its going to be more of a hassle.

As you say, this is fine if the Subject is OFF centre.

The other 2 unwanted results are:

#1 - No control of the speed of the re-focus

#2 - The "HUNT" can look a bit homespun.
