Hvx-200a/202a

Hi guys I've just come back from panasonic training session and this is what I got told by the reps.
The HVX-200A/202A will be released at NAB and will include AVC-Intra as recording option.

This will be a real competitor against the EX-1 as the recording time will be upped to almost doubled than regular DVC-Pro HD recordings.

Only if it has 1920 x 1080 chips!

Tim Polster April 12th, 2008 09:13 AM

It's starting to heat up!

This along with the EX3 show some promise.

What's the difference between the 200a and 202a?

Edit: Nevermind, the 202a is the European model..

We would be lucky if it had native 720p chips.

Here it is:

The April 14, 2008 issue of "TV Technology" magazine contains a Panasonic P2 HD insert. The HVX200 is listed as the HVX200A. The description is: "This remarkable camcorder features all the fabulous features and benefits of the HVX200, plus improved progressive 3-CCD imagers and a DSP that increases sensitivity, while lowering noise and smear. A new 13X zoom lens provides a wide 30mm viewing angle ..."

The insert also shows the AG-HPX170 Fully Solid State, 1/3" 3-CCD Handheld Camcorder. The description is: "This smaller, more powerful, go anywhere DVCPRO HD camcorder offers a wide angle Leica Dicomar lens, two P2 slots for continuous recording, HD-SDI and IEEE 1394 interfaces, NTSC/PAL switchable, a time/date stamp function, and more variable frame rates than prior P2 HD handhelds. It comes with our 5-year limited warranty."

NAB is less than 24 hours away so in short order we'll find out what's real or not however, I've seen what is purported to be a PDF brochure on the 200A and there's no mention of AVC-Intra (not surprising because there's no room in the HVX for the board) and there's also a list of things they *didn't* do to the HVX - such as no upgraded LCD/viewfinder.

If the brochure is real - and the proof will come out tomorrow - then many will be disappointed with the "A" version. Better, to be sure than the original but not the makeover we had all hoped for.

Well said Robert. I'm attending the Panasonic NAB press conference today here in Las Vegas; we'll all know what is what within the next few hours.

Kevin Railsback April 13th, 2008 03:10 PM

Well, looks like the AG-HPX170 is real.

"Looks like a new HVX. Weighs only 4.2 pounds -- MUCH lighter! Wider-angle lens, 3.9mm to 51mm. 1080P-capable camcorder, new advanced 1/3" 16:9 CCDs, high-performance DSP, 14-bit processing. 20 HD & SD formats, 16:9 and 4:3, time-date stamp function for legal deposition. 20 variable frame rates. Two P2 slots. Available in the fall, covered by 5-year warranty. HD-SDI output." Barry Green
