35mm adapter, BUILT IN! at DVinfo.net

Someone should build a 1/3 in ccd camcorder with a 35mm adapter all-in-one. It would just be the same thing as adding an adapter to an HV20, but sold as one unit. Who ever does it should hollow out a Beta SP cam body or something for the guts. Make it look big and strong. Your images would look pretty great, but the guts would break the bank, and no one would have to see some strange upside down palm-corder at their shoot.

If anyone takes me up on the idea, will you let me play with it?

Why not just have a lens mount for 35mm lenses built in to the camera (no "default" lens) and work properly with the sensor? That way you'd avoid the gg issues.

Or do you mean a 35mm adapter without the GG? Then that would just be like a lens mount built in.

Of course we'd all love something like that. That's one reason the Nikon D90/Canon 5D Mark II are so cool! Interchangeable 35mm lenses! :)

The reason you need the ground glass is to project a proper image size that emulates the depth of field characteristics of the a 35mm film camera. Throwing the image from a 35mm lens directly onto a small 1/4 or 1/3 inch imager creates a super telephoto effect, but does not provide practical solutions for the indie film maker.

Red is promising another break throught deal this week, maybe they are moving forward with something like Nels is suggesting.

Ground glass would be a must. It would pretty much be what those dudes are doing with the Red Rock Micro and the HV20, but package it together, and make it look big. I know compact cameras are becoming more and more popular, but some times you have to impress the client, and big cameras are more impressive.

If RED does it, cool. If not, maybe someone else will.
