Sony -- Panasonic -- Canon

These three companies are the most progressive electronics companies. Sony and Panasonic are fighting for 1st spot in sales. But Canon is many times more profitable than the other two combined. Which company will be the new leader 10 years from now? I bet Sony will be 1st, Canon 2nd, and Pansonic 3rd. What do you guys think? Is there another company that will be as successful in consumer and pro electronics? Sharp? Samsung?

Sony is in the black, and deeply. Personally, I think that Canon and Pana have been making better consumer cams during the last couple of years. But sony has their share of good ones too. Who knows who the leader will be in 10 years. Maybe even that large German Electronics company---Semens, something like that.

I think Frank means Sony is in the red. They, like many Japanese companies, are battling the flailing Japanese economy and showing record loses. In 10 years, who knows, the Japanese govt. is trying to strengthen the economy but lots of things need to change in Japan before it's going to happen.

Sorry, I meant "red." I was thinking black mamba (Pana NV-GS100). :):)

Meanwhile, Canon was one of the top five most profitable corporations in Japan last year -- plus they spend more money on research and development than any other company its size, about $5.2 million every day.

Canon really missed the boat by not getting into CCD production, and it's too late now. However I think there will be very interesting things coming from them in the near future.
