BC to join the USA

In an unprecedented move, British Columbia has decided to succeed from Canada and petition to become the 51st state.

One Canadian mp who wished to remain anonymous, stated they have been in secret duscussions for years.

It's reported that the Bush Adminstration favors this because it would immediately add 50,000 new jobs to the economy and be a big help for his candidacy. It would also quell charges about movie related jobs leaving the country.

Sources inside the State Department would neither confirm nor deny this earth shattering news, but stated 'With all the rich American Actors buying homes up there, it certainly makes a lot of sense'.

Rumors that Quebec was trying the same thing were firmly denied by the same sources at the State Department, stating 'You've got to be kidding, right?'

So to all you soon to be Americans in Vancouver and elsewhere...

Welcome to the USA.

It's unbelievable how many actors have homes here, actually. There's a well known couple just living a few blocks away from me. When "she's" out on the streets, she's always covered up like she was living in Iran, not to be recognized, I guess.

It was the marijuana industry right? American glomming onto things again!

Joe Carney April 27th, 2004 04:37 PM

Marijuana? ooooooo, I hadn't thought of that, well then, let me REALLY welcome you to the USA mon.:)

In a related story...

West Virginia has been very desperate to get reabsorbed back into Virginia. Since they broke away at the beginning of the Civil War things haven't worked out well for the poor, rural state.

'Besides' said West Virginias' governor Bob Wise, 'If Virginia takes us back you won't have to change the flag when British Columbia becomes a state.'

Canada-
It's not just for deserters anymore!

Nick Kerpchar April 28th, 2004 03:23 PM

Actually, I heard someone say that there may be a lot to be said for the reverse; for the U.S. to become part of Canada.

Here are the top 10 reasons the U.S. should join Canada:
(#10) cheaper prescription drugs for senior citizens in the lower 48 states;
(#09) easier for Canadians to purchase video equipment from vendors that support this forum;
(#08) no more kidnappings and being held for ransom as everyone knows that no one kidnaps a Canadian for ransom;
(#07) no more arguements about the Standley Cup;
(#06) the multi-lingual sign business will skyrocket and drive the economy higher;
(#05) lots of movie stars from Hollywood with homes in Canada to be taxed and lots of Canadian media people in the lower 48 states to be taxed;
(#04) absolutely no shortage of beer at any time of the year whatsoever, guaranteed;
(#03) no more trying to decide which side of Niagra Falls is more beautifyul;
(#02) all the people working on the northern border can be transferred to work on the southern border;

and the number one reason to join Canada is,

(#01) once all the politicians are transferred to Ottawa, Washington D.C. can be turned into a water theme park and duty-free mega-mall.

P.S. This will only work if no one tells West Virginia.

(wink, wink. Nod, nod) ;)

BC to join the USA? D_mn! There goes the free health insurance. On the bright side, we'll be using greenbacks for buying our cams. :-))

But Nick, then all those Canadians with vacation homes in
South East FL will get taxed at Canadian tax rates.

Nick Kerpchar April 30th, 2004 08:59 AM

Joe,
That would be the beauty of the merger, everything taxed from the North Pole to the Rio Grande River. As a matter of fact, they could probably do away with the complex tax codes and just have a flat-rate tax (one flat tax on income for individuals and companies alike and no deductions, no loop holes, no big-dollar attornies getting tax-evades off the hook, etc.). And if tax deductions were made from salaries monthly, then there would be no scramble at one point in time to file a tax return. The possibilities are staggering!

Ah, only in Area 51. ;)

P.S. We see lots of cars with Ontario license plates down here in the winter months. We hate to see them leave and head north because that means the hot weather is just around the corner.

If BC joined the US, what would they do with the New Democatic Party? Poor Svend ! (inside joke)

She is just trying to get in ahead of the crowd.

Whatever happened with that "54:40 or fight!" thing? If some politicians hadn't sold out way back when, the usable parts of the Northern Zone would never have been lost in the first place. But, of course, we would have had to take Quebec along with it.

In an unprecedented move, Gov. Bill Richardson announced, today, that New Mexico would be seceding from the union, thereby reducing the lower forty eight to the lower forty seven. Consistent with the secession, the former governor, now king, announced the creation of an oligarcy, with himself as its leader. Rumors abound that former Gov. Bruce King would replace Richardson, becoming the first King King in history. New Mexico has long felt like the US's forgotten stepchild, and with this move of power, now holds rein on the tourist industy from America.
