new 10 footcandle camera, Sony's 6th HDV model

It uses 10 foot long cande for natural effect ilumination.

(LOL!) or (Really??)

Something better than that is a giant single LED light. Good for news photography!

Radek Svoboda May 28th, 2005 12:16 PM

1 LED should be better solution, same amount of light and lot smaller. Going back to nature, how about portable fireplace over someone's head for true natural effect? Sony needs have more HDV models. 5 is not enough. What's funny is they have 2 cameras and made 5 models out of it. If they add to Qualia the smaller HDV camera, which probably will, that will be 6 models there.

Seriously! If you had a fireplace over your head, it would catch on fire! But if you're truly serious for natural lighting, buy a vintage oil lamp and use a modified boom mic stick! Try it, then post the results in HDV-M2T or DV-AVI! I'm serious, this is very plausible!

Jack,

Let's go back to candles. When Forman shot Amadeus, used thousands candles. That is fact. Let's go back to nature. Who needs electrical lighting.

Bingo! Excellent example! You are smart and so serious about lighting! I believe you, 100%!

Yeah, light a thousand candles sometime. You might find it easier to set up a light and throw the switch.

Lol!!

One word:
Runners...

At least someone's making the lazy buggers actually do some work!

"The King Is Alive" is a Dogme95 film shot with PD150s about 4 or 5 years ago. As you know, according to Dogme95 rules, you have to use only available light. There were lots of scenes at night in buildings, but kerosene lanterns were available, so they were legal. The footage looked great.

All only goes to prove use of electricity for lighting is wrong and should be banned. Anyone tried gas lanterns?

I believe the Amish already do this for their videos. The hard part is converting the camcorders to hand-cranked operation. Their video system is entirely mechanical, similar to the Baird method. Of course, not using electricity prevents broadcasting, so everything is on wax cylinders, which can be problematic on hot days...
