Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

My vendor is saying that the last update from Atomos is pushing this until late November-early December. I don't know what to believe now. I just know that I am driving myself crazy deciding if I am going to stick with my XL-H1 and utilize a cleaner, SDI out to Prores with the Samurai (retaining a very good looking HD signal but not very cinematic) or migrate to a new camera that uses larger sensors and get the best of both worlds. I currently have a 7D but we are stuck with the aliasing issues and only being able to utilize the onboard codec.

As long as I am unable to try this with my XL-H1 I cannot really make a decision! Arggh!!!!

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

The Samurai is actually, really, truly and positively available in the UK right now. However, only if pre-ordered, ie everyone is sold out until next week at the earliest (8th Nov).

Anyone got their's yet? Dominic

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Dominic...great news! My vendor, here in 'the colonies', tells me he one of the four 'Black Belt' distributors of Atomos products, so, I expect a good message from him shortly.

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Has anyone else heard anything? The website still says they are shipping October 26th....which obviously has passsed. You'd think they would have updated it if has been delayed again. Still.....I am getting impatient for some concrete answers.

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Marty, it's not delayed, just sold out due to the number of pre-orders. The next batch is being shipped to distributers at the end of this week and should be delivered to the remaining pre-order customers by 8th Nov. That is what I was told this morning by Global Distribution, who are handling the UK roll out. No idea what the situation is in North America. Dominic

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Spoke with Guy Cochrane of DVEStore, a DVInfo sponsor and they are expecting theirs on November 11 in very limited numbers outside of pre-orders so if you are serious, contact Guy. I need to wait for the next batch...

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

To all;

As I mentioned, I don't have a pressing need for my 'Samurai', except for my my 'childlike desire' for a 'new toy'.

I'm glad to hear things are 'in-progress'. I believe Atomos has built the 'proverbial mousetrap', that is, if the hardware meets the 'marketing hype.'

Regards,

J.

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

To all;

Regarding U.S. availability of the Atomos Samurai:

Hi James,

Production is complete and the first units which were ordered form Europe have
shipped.

The US will be receiving its first units Mid next week realistically depending
on shipping and customs clearances.

You will have it in the next 1 week, the product is performing very well. Sorry
for the lack of info we have been really under the pump to finish build and ship
the units.

You will not be disappointed in waiting.

Regards
Jeromy

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Good news indeed. I have had mine preordered for near 2 months so hopefully will get one fast. So that I am 100% certain, this does ship with an sdi cable, right?

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

Marty: IF NOT, a quality 75ohm BNC cable for that short a length would suffice for now. Slowly replacing all my old composite BNC runs with HD-SDI approved cable but I have had no problems with HD-SDI integrity out to 250' so far on quality custom built BNC cable...

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

My vendor told me that it is included in the box from Atomos but I haven't seen that confirmed anywhere for certain. When I ordered my accessories I did not include this because of that. I just need to know for certain ahead of time so I can be prepared.

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

If you have an SDI cable then of course you want the hardware. But imagine waiting all this time, getting the unit in hand and not having an SDI cable to try it! That's what I am trying to avoid. I was totally cool with buying cable but my vendor says it is included. I know people can make mistakes so I am double checking just in case. :)

Marty...no worries mate! I was just teasing. I'm sure your vendor is correct.

Re: ATOMOS Subforum?

BTW, if anyone gets a 'Samurai' in their hot little hands, please let the rest of us know. I received a call from my 'vendor' this a.m., he hasn't heard anything from 'his' supplier, yet, and was going to call them with the info from Jeromy Young, CEO Atomos.

We'll see how this plays out.
