It's merely a cheaper Shogun.

Ordered one. I already have a Shogun, but it's overkill for my cameras, so pairing it with the Assassin will work great for me.

I had a chance to check one out. I'm especially impressed with the Playback and scrubbing. Compared to earlier versions of the Ninja, its like the chipset has become more powerful to push the data around. I like the thought of rough cutting on the Ninja Assassin while traveling. Instead of pulling out a big ole laptop on the plane or in the back of the car, I can pull out the 7" touchscreen and start going through the footage, marking in and out and labeling clips good or bad.
We tossed together a top 10 on the Ninja Assassin check it out
