Canopus HQ AVI and Premier 2.0 problem at DVinfo.net

I have a Sony SR11 HD camcorder. I love the picture quality of this little baby. However, when it comes to editing it gives me headache. I missed the times when video captured by my OLd pana DVC80 pro cam can be edited smoothly on adobe premier 2.0 . But with the SR11 its not the case. So i try to edit some videos taken. Knowing the limitation of my PC ( dual core, 4 gigs of ram) power, i was force to use Edius 4.6 to convert AVCHD files to canopus HQ avi, not mentioning the large files created, before i can edit the clips.

However, every time I try to import the Canupos HQ Avi files into Adobe prem 2.0 it crashes. My question is, Will this problem be solved if i will upgrade to premier CS3? I just feel working comfortably with Premier than edius, that's why i just use Edius as a tool to convert AVCHD to AVI.
