Sanyo Xacti HD1010 - Format confusion AHOY !
 

Hey guys, just very confused with this little camera as the manual isn't really telling me everything I need to know for editing formats.

When I set the camera to record in 'Full HD' it does so as: 1920 × 1080 pixels, 60 field/s
* The 60 fps frame rate of this camera is 59.94 fps

So if I were to edit that footage as it is, I'd need to set a project up as 1920x1080 at 59.94fps - However, how am I to know if that is interlaced or not ?


Also I can't see the advantage of shooting at 59.94fps, I just set it as that initially as it was at the top, and didn't have time to test before shooting, 30p would be more ideal, as I can then convert that to 25p easily.

Without actually checking the specs, the normal wording is that 60 fields per second means it is interlaced. They would say 60 frames per second if it were progressive (i.e. non-interlaced).

Depending on the method you use to convert to 25P, you will likely get a better result converting from 60i than from 30P, since there is more temporal info for the conversion to work with.

IT's a bit annoying that they aren't more specific, as it's not like editing that footage is as straight forwards as trusty old mini dv was !

I'm also just wondering why it's not fully 60fps but instead 59.94fps ?

59.94 is double the 29.97 frames per sec NTSC broadcast framerate (i.e., two fields for each full frame)
