avchd bit rates?

1. Why do the bib companies advertise that 24mbt is the max when

2. Blue ray disc play at higher bitrates. I have a PS3 and the display shows the bitrate to sometimes be a high of above 45...

3. Why does the Canon DSLR shoot at a higher then 24 mbt bit rate.

If they say it's the maximum then shouldn't it be?

What's a bib?

You are thinking of AVCHD bit rates.

Blu-Ray plays multiple media formats including MPG-2 and data streams.

24 Mbps is the maximum bit rate specified by the AVCHD spec which is a directory that contains H.264 video and audio streams. H.264 codec itself can have bit rates much higher than those used by the Canon video DSLR. Blu-ray spec has 40 Mbps maximum for all compatible video codecs, namely H.264, MPEG-2 and VC-1. Like AVCHD, any of these codecs has to reside in a fixed directory structure unique to the Blu-ray disc format.
