AVCHD rendering - overheating processor

A while ago I exported/rendered 1080 50i .m2ts video from my video editor to the hard drive, I decided to run 'Speccy' and was shocked to see that pc's processor, i7 920 quad core, temperature reached 90˚C. The Corsair H80 water cooling system was recommended by my local pc supplier. This system is effective in keeping the processor temp down at 75˚c when rendering. However, the system is very noisy. The pc now sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

I edit with Serif MoviePlusX5. This software does not utilise the CUDA functionality that the new graphics cards now have. As I understand it, it does not use the graphics acceleration together with the processor when rendering HD video like , say Sony Vegas or Adobe Premier do. Nonetheless, it handles HD video with ease and is very stable.

Processor heat and cooling fan noise are the problems. Does anyone have/had these problems ? Anyone with a solution ?

I use the current version of PowerDirector (10) which gives you the option of using either full PC, GPU or a combination of the two to render a video. AVCHD is one of the most demanding. Although I see my PC run typically at around 98% capacity (i7) and yes the fans are noisy if I use only the CPU, the fan noise does drop when using the GPU as well.

Eugene - many computer people replace noisy cooler fans with quieter ones. To learn more about this, read the "feedback" sections on computer parts websites such as Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more! or TigerDirect.com - Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Components, Netbooks & Electronics under the Corsair H80 cooler (which I just ordered for my next computer build). Also, magazines and magazine websites such as "CPU" or "Maximum PC" have info on the fan noise levels and using quieter fans.

Mark,

Thank you for the links. It is an eye opener to see that so many others have the same problem with the H80.

I have resolved my problem. A new, more upmarket pc case, the Corsair H80 water cooler built into the rear exhaust port did the trick. When rendering AVCHD video the processor core temp now maxes out at 60°C and runs at a whisper.
