HDR-UX1 and HDR-SR1 Resolution?

Anyone know if these camcorders record at 1440x1080 or 1920x1080?

I ask because AVCHD supports 1920x1080 as well as anamorphic 1440x1080.

thats a good question. If this thing is using the same CMOS chip as the HC1 and HC3 then it should be able to do 1920x1080. Just because it can however does not mean it will. 1440x1080 would have a little bit better compression so maybe they went that way. Hopefully somebody can answer this for sure.

But if it has an HC1-style sensor, would you really gain anything by recording 1920x1080 pixels? Why not let computers do that interpolation during playback, instead of wasting bits at the recording end?

Even if the sensor cannot really resolve 1920x1080, encoding at 1920x1080 will still give better results since the color space is 4:2:0.

So the 1920x1080 mode will yield a resolution in chroma of 960x540 as opposed to 720x540 of 1440x1080.

True there will be more compression artifacts at the higher resolution since the compression is more aggressive, but still I would prefer a higher chroma resolution. Has many advantages like keying, etc.
