The UX1 is said to be due out in Japan by September 10th and the SR1 will be due out 1 month later.

I'd imagine that's so. I have a production model UX1 in my hands right now, and the embargo on information was released this morning, so I'm hoping to post pix, etc, later this evening.

given the choice of the HC3 or the UX1, it would be a tossup. Weight of the HC3 is preferable, display of the UX1 is preferable. I'm not a fan of DVD storage.
I've had the UX1 for a while now, just not allowed to talk about it, and since I've been working with the pre-production model, haven't really been sure what the final would come out to be.
the DVD formatting/finalizing simply screams on this camcorder, it's very, very fast compared to other DVD camcorders I've played with. LCD display is wonderful. It's heavy.

Do you still see it as a consumer format for awhile or could they put it on the next Z1U?

Isntit so because the DVD is NOT formatted as a standard Video DVD, and therefore does not need any finalisation either because it doesnot carry any baggage apart the -simple - file system ?
