DV Info Net - Footage? AVCHD Defend Yourself!

I too had hear of how bad the video was. Yesterday the painter we having doing some work for us brought in his SR1 to show us video of his 9 month old daughter. We showed it via component cables on my Sony HiScan CRT 1080i TV. The picture was beautiful. So I went off to get my FX1 to show video of our grandson. Frankly for these family style shots we couldn't tell the difference. There were shots outside in the sun as well as indoors at night. There was one real difference he could find all his clips easily and then show us but I had 6 or 7 tapes to wind through to find the equivalent scenes!!!!!! No contest for this task the AVCHD HDD camcorders are much better and quality is more than adequate. I shall definately look to get one of the new SR7 as second cam to my FX1 and for all the family video. I looked for all the sparkles in the sky etc that have been reported I couldn't see any defects that were of significance to me for this task of family video. I expect it would have problems just like all the other consumer single chip cams in difficult conditions so what, nothings perfect. in Canada the FX1 is almost 3 times the cost of the SR1 and for most people I don't think they would tell the difference!!! He described the difference like going from VHS to DV and I tend to agree. He has had no problem using the Sony software to make DVD backups in both SD DVD as well as AVCHD and had no problem understanding the need to back up to hard drive frequently( even bought two 500G drives for this purpose, puts copies on both). So maybe its the video proffessionals that are having the problem and the consuming public are just fine!!!
