HDV downconvert to SD (DV AVI)

Hi, I'm new to the forum. And new to lots of HDV 'experiments'.

I'm working with JVC GY-HD110E and Avid Liquid 7.2.

Recently, I captured HDV video at 30p and natively imported and edited the material in Avid Liquid 7.2. The pictures look stunning on the screen.

I decided to export (fuse) as DV AVI for work on another computer (a DV machine, to make a standard DVD).

I tried to make the export progressive (since the footage is 29.97 HDV), but I see it actually exported as interlaced bottom field. Fair enough. But when I import the AVI file back into Avid to view it (and I've made both interlaced and progressive Sequences for it), the picture looks awful grainy on screen.

I've been told that DV should look better when acquired originally on HDV. Has anybody any suggestions how to achieve this?

Thanks in advance,

Seamus Byrne.

Liquid does not do a true de-interlace. I shoot 30p with my V1 all the time but I run it through as 60i or Liquid really softens the picture a lot.

Is your camera recording as 30p in a 60i stream or is it true 30p?

If its a 60i stream then configure your timeline for 60i and fuse as 60i. The quality of the output will be much better.
