Avid MC + EX-1 + Mac

I tried searching, but found nothing.

On a MacPro, running MC 3.0 and the clip browser software, how exactly do I transfer the files from the cards into Avid?

As I understand it, the PC version of clip browser allows for MXF export, and the MAC version does not. If it does then I can't find that feature within the program.
Please help.

Hi Devin.

As par for the course with Avid, us Mac users always to get the short end of the stick insofar as parity with our Windows brethren are concerned. But enough about that...

To answer your question, there are two options available to us Mac users: first if you have Bootcamp and Windows installed on your computer, you can user the Windows version of the Clip Browser to convert the media on the SxS cards into an Avid readable form simply by storing them to the Windows partition on the Mac's hard drive and importing them in the Avid. Or it you aren't running Bootcamp (or Parallels or VMWare Fusion for that matter), you can import the footage with FCP via the Log & Transfer (or XDCAM transfter software) and then import that Quicktime movie into Avid's Media Composer. Finally, what is probably the best scenario, if you can wait a week or so, is download Sony's Clip Browser software 2.0 when it is released sometime in the next 10 days and import the footage with that. I called Sony on Thursday about this very issue and the support person I spoke with was well aware of the problem and told me emphatically that the release was imminent and that it would solve the absurd lack of parity between the Mac and Windows version (1.1.0) by supporting the MXF requirements of Media Composer.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Torv for the reply.

Do you know the website that I may be able to get the new ClipBrowser software when it is released?
Thanks again.

But the clip browser software is Sony's not Avid's...it's Sony who deserves a kick (this time anyway).

Hi Devin.

When Sony's Clip Browser 2.0 software is finally released it will probably be available here:

https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software.aspx

All the best.
