Sony PMW-EX3 and Avid
Hey everyone,
I was working with an EX3 and I was looking at the SxS cards on my Mac (I'm a Final Cut Pro user, but a client I work with uses Avid), and I noticed that, in addition to the BPAV folder that contains all the data to process video clips, it also had an Avid folder with data. Does anyone know what to do when it comes to working with EX3 footage and Avid? Thanks, Heath |
If there is an Avid folder on the card, I believe Avid must have accessed it and left it there. When you first view an SxS card on the Mac or PC, there is only the BPAV folder.

The thing is, I was looking at it on my Mac as a USB device. I opened the drives up on my desktop, and there they were. I'll record some footage and look again and see what happens.

I dunno Heath, I've never seen anything but a BPAV folder on the card as it came out of the camera.

Weird. It's going to have to wait, because the EX3 is out on a shoot today.

It sound as if someone had the card mounted as a drive when they started a new project in Avid. When starting Avid it scans for all possible media drives and partitions and creates a media folder or folders automatically for MXF or OMF files. The folder in your case is just a dummy. No functionalility really. I've had a folder created on a USB flash drive created before.

Sounds about right. At any rate, I haven't had enough time working with the EX3, but it seems like a cool camera. I just think it's very "left-heavy" due to the LCD/viewfinder. Sheesh, that thing's big!
I am an EX1 user and love the camera. Never thought I'd be as excited about a tapeless camera, to be honest. heath |
Got the EX3 back and I went in and wiped the cards in camera, recorded some stuff, then hooked the EX3 to my MacBook. Lo and behold, no Avid folders. Still not sure 100% what happened last time, but it's not there anymore.

Yup, I expect the card was plugged into the clients computer when he booted up the avid, which saw it as a drive at some point and put a folder on it.

I've never seen that before, very strange.
