DNxHD 175 X MXF removes pulldown?

If I have Avid Adrenaline and I set up my project at 1920x1080 @ 24, my determinations are:

1) 10 bit Codec at 176 MBs with the DNxHD 175 X MXF codec
2) Removes pulldown from 60i HD-SDI signal (single link)
3) Records in Avid DNxHD codec and can create native media compatible with FCP.

My question are these:

1) Are my determinations correct?
2) How does Avid detect and remove pulldown from 60i HD-SDI?
3) If I have an Sony EX3, recording the live 10-bit tap, does pulldown matter (ie 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2)?

The perceived workflow is Sony EX3 > Avid Adrenaline Live Capture > Export in native codec with .mov wrapper.

Thanks for your thoughts,
-C

I'm not sure quite what you're setting up your project to accomplish, but the wrapper for Avid is MXF not .MOV. So, is your workflow going from Avid to FCP????

Sorry David, left an important part out. Once MXF is captured, a QT reference will be generated (ref to MXF media) and a "Save As" is done in QT Pro, which will render out a QT at native DNxHD resolution. Once codec is install on FCP (installed in library/quicktime), it will see the media in native Avid resolution (10 bit, 1920x1080 @ 23.98).

But my question still stands about the cadence - how does Avid know which pulldown to select - indeed, if I have the EX1 with the firmware update - I can output over HD-SDI true 23.98 but what about the 60i signal? Does Avid know to drop these frames?
Thanks,
-C

There used to be a place in settings with v.2.5.3 that you could set the cadence setting but in version 3 I can't find it. I think it was a 2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2 for any 24p including 24pa.

I'll check up on it more tonight. I know that Avid allows you to set the cadence.

Okay. Avid's normal cadence is 2:3:2:3. Otherwise, it changes for 24pa at 2:3:3:2. It should remove pulldown from 60i.

So, Avid should automatically drop the correct frames. Otherwise, if you encounter any problems you might have to use cinema tools which means you may not be able to use a reference file.

Cheers.

Awesome - Thanks David. I'll run some tests when I can to verify the 24pA thing.
