Great movie!

Not a classic, but definately worth seeing on the big screen.

I can imagine the studio executives going back to Neil Blomkamp and offering him 'Halo' back.

I enjoyed it, but I'm of the opinion that the ridiculous gore and whatnot at some points cheapened it. The best part of the movie was walking out and hearing some teenager ask her friends if the movie was based on a true story.

I'm assuming that she wasn't referring to apartheid.

What I don't understand is how a major studio trusts a 29 year old with 30 million dollars for a first feature (writer/director). Someone doesn't get that lucky unless the script is liquid gold (which it was in this case).

BTW - It made it's budget back + 7 million this weekend (yep 37 million opening). Awesome.

Well, two first time directors to watch.

Neill Blomkamp - District 9
Marc Webb - 500 days of summer

Well, Peter Jackson brought this guy on to direct Halo. He felt bad after Halo fell through, so he decided to work with Blomkamp on an original story that they could raise financing for independently. The studios didn't fund this project.
