Another take on the "biz" today. Digital films will be the standard soon enough. I think it will happen when more "pros" decide to apply their skills to the digital format and when studios realize that they're not the "be all, end all" when it comes to release.

A good read at www.boxofficeguru.com. Gitesh Pandya has been running this site for quite awhile, it's a simple read of box office stats and tracking. He has started a new column that will be focusing on 1 on 1 interviews with producers and studio execs and their experiences on the path to Oscar glory. The first interview is with John Singleton, producer of Hustle and Flow and how he slipped on the producers hat. He financed the film with his own cash. Old news to some, I know, but it's a good read.

Hey Heath, do you by chance know of any site that's tracking "Bubble's" numbers. It's such a limited release, maybe too small for anybody to bother. On the other hand, wouldn't that be easier to track? And thanks for posting the correct link, my lazy spelling will be my downfall one day.

This is awesome. I live in Toronto and Vancouver and a local filmmaker that goes by the name of Julia Kwan from here has just won 'the Special Jury Prize in the World Dramatic category of the Sundance Film Festival for her feature film debut Eve & the Fire Horse'. Nice to see our indie industry is starting to get recognized.

Ok, this is pretty humbling. A 13 yr. old girl from Texas (the home base of this site I think) has just completed here FIRST FEATURE FILM. She wrote, directed, edited and produced with the help of a few grants and her parents. Go figure, a 13 yr. old makes a zombie flick as their debut. Check out her site and her imdb listing as well, and Ain't it cool has a write up on their site.

Interesting thoughts about may be Hollywoods new direction. There's a lot of talk about what lies ahead in regards to the continued "studio system" vs. the crop of new digital studios that will popping up more and more in the not too distant future. Everything is about to be turned on it's head soon enough, and I for one am loving the new direction the production industry is heading in. Pardon the cliche but 'it's the dawn of a new era'. Borat of all things just proved that this weekend with a $26 million opening in only 867 locations, The Santa Claus 3 on the other hand was released in 3400 or so and only grossed $20 million. With viral marketing, digital media and grass roots campaigns the "indie" studio will only grow with popularity.
