Expensive no named web video shorts~ for whom?

I've come across a web video short that's really impressive. It's a short about Batman tackling the Joker and Alien VS Predtaor come into the fight......considering how well it was done and at the seemingly high expense- why do some people create videos like these? I really enjoy them but was wondering who or why are they created? Is it internet fame or possible job seeking with bigger studios...........have a look at this video and you'll be impressed and wonder why it was done- or for whom? Put on your speakers and enjoy- it's really well done!

Wow, that was excellent, those people sure know what they're doing.

I don't know how expensite it would be since it mostly about renting some suits which isn't that costly.

The rain effect was nice though, not sure how much that would cost.

But if these guys aren't pros they should be. 5 stars to the technical side, not to the idea that is kinda dumb (Batman vs AVP? wot??).

Pieces like this are calling cards. They are shorts to demonstrate your abilities as a (fill in the blank.) Since the filmmakers don't own the rights to the characters, they can never sell it. FanFilms have a following on the internet, so there are some accolades to be gotten from that community as well. But mostly, like writing a spec script for a television show that's already a hit, you use it for demonstrating your abilities.

The guy who did that, is Sandy Collora. He is active in Hollywood, doing special effects and props I believe. He did the Batman as a show reel. Here is a bit on him from IMDB-

And the guy who played the Joker, was Screech from Saved by the Bell, who is also Chekov's (From Star Trek) son. Ok... that last bit was rumor ;)

very nice work indeed. That is the scariest looing Joker I've seen. Sound was also very nice. Has everyone checked out the free Short Films on the Sundance site. Some of these are excellent.

While Batman is still fresh in your mind, I recommend watching "Robin's Big Date"
