Rendezvous with Rama??

Has anyone heard anything about the movie version of Arthur C Clarke's "Rendezvous with Rama "?. I know morgan freeman owns the rights to the movie and I think they have done some pre viz and spoken to paramount about distribution but nothing has been said for ages.

It would be one amazing film if they did it right.....the books were epic. The official website hasn't changed in a long time.....I hope they haven't given up.

wont be 2006 much later

yes i am also very interested in this movie having read the whole rama series. it was announced a long time ago as a project which 'revelations entertainment' (Morgan freemans independant production co) were attempting. all i know is that Intel are providing some new hardware for the CGI david fincher is directing, morgan freeman is taking the lead role as Norton, but no other details have been released that i know of.

Now, this was suppose to be released in 2003, or i think that was their target, but they needed to finish off other projects which were still in production. Then they said 2006, my guess is that it wont be out for another few years, i know becasue i contacted R.E this is the reply email:

Rama is in the very early stages of development and will not be in production for some time. Thank you for your interest.

Warm regards,
Revelations Entertainment

This means that they are still intending to make it which is more than I expected. I thought they may have given up as it is such a large project....lets hope that when they do make it they do it justice.

Thanks for the info Luan.

I always thought it would be cool to make Clarkes 'Childhoods' End', even with it's blatantly anti religious bent.
I only read the first Rama book and it was great.

This Is Very Strange...

When I saw this title my eyes about popped out. In 1976, a group of local Atlantic City guys were making this black and white 16 millimeter low budget independent futuristic movie called "Rendezvous with Rama". I remember this well because I had a small part in it as some sort of "space trooper" or something. I don't remember exactly. The scene I was in depicted some sort of horrible catastrophe. One of my buddies made a latex facial injury mask for one of the catastrophe "victims" (His name is Ken Copel, the writer of the Dan Cortese/Jonathan Silverman movie "At First Sight". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114754/). Anyway, I thought these local guys wrote this movie (remember, this was when the Star Wars craze was in full swing). The guy directing it was (and still is, believe it or not) the manager of one of my local theatres and he used the darkened movie theatre (when the place was closed, of course) to shoot the space ship scenes. You know, he never finished the movie. But here I am, after all these years, thinking "Rendezvous with Rama" was an original movie written by this guy!

Interesting, if true. And interesting anyway.
