Thank God You're Here!
I am in love with the AU version and think the US version is a disgrace. Josh Lawson and crew are too funny! I hope three things happen; it doesn't get cancelled for a while, all seasons get released in the US on DVD pronto, and the US version gets canned just as quickly.

You're talking about the improv show, right? Yeah, it's God-awful. It's like they picked the worst people to do live improv. . .I know people in my life, actors, whoever, that could do a thousand times better. And I also can't figure out why the audienc is laughing. Are they cued to? Are they that brain-dead that weak, tepid (and this is being nice) humor actually amuses them? I mean, it isn't just kinda crappy, it's super unbelievably bad in a way that makes me wanna cry.
Maybe the actors have to restrain themselves to keep it broadcastable (in terms of censorship, I mean). . .it's definitely very weak. |
Fellas if you enjoy "Thank God You're Here" look up a little Australian film called "The Castle" by the same group (Working Dog is their name). I think you'll enjoy it.

I enjoyed the US Show...I also enjoy watching people thrown into improv situations who aren't ready for it. There were a couple of gems last season...most impressive were Stephen Root, Tom Green and Eddie Kaye Thomas.
Improv is hard, I do it every fall and really love watching people struggle with it, cause it makes me feel better ;) It's a tough gig for folks who don't do it on a regular basis. That wide-eyed glaring at the oncoming headlights is what people are laughing at in the audience...I've received many laughs that way personally. |
