Which Blu-Ray Burner

I think it boils down to the LG GGW-H20L or the Pioneer BDR-202.

Main difference I can see is that the LG also burns HD which has ceased to be of relevance.

In my book, the Pioneer now takes the advantsge because it can burn BD-RE re-writeables, which will save on expensive coasters.

Any other options/suggestions.

Just getting ready for DVDA5 release.

I've got the BD-202. It works well.

In my opinion, BD-RE compatibility is paramount. There are too many potential incompatibility challenges with BD to risk burning BD-R prototypes. Proof your discs with BD-RE. Once satisfied, burn BD-R copies for distribution.

I owed the LG burner. It works very well. Price drop down a lot too. LG won't burn HD-DVD. It only reads them. I also burn BluRay to BD-RE. No problems either.

Now I'm confused. My understanding was that the LG Burners did NOT burn re-writeables.

Am I wrong?

yeah, you got it wrong.

What burner and what software?

Hi,
I use the Cannon XL H1 with FCP6 on a 8 core Mac Pro. I'm not sure what route to take as regards to authoring and burning blu-ray discs.
I was interested in the panasonic burner, but it seems only to be for PC. And so far fastmac don't seem to be answering my questions, whether their burners are just for data storage or will burn authored DVD.
Also there's the question of authoring software, is it true the only thing for mac is adobe encore?
Should I splash out now or wait to see if Apple come out with anything soon?
Would be glad of any help.
Thanks,
Nikki

Been waiting

I have been waiting for what seems like a freakin eternity Nikki. My research had lead me to buy Toast Titanium 9 and DL the BR upgrade. I have not tested it but my thread on the FCP section here yielded some great replies.

It S U C K S that apple has not adressed this but here we are. I have not read about anyone being in love with Encore and it "aint" cheap:) Toast on the other hand is and maybe the ticket to get into the BR game.

Just to update you, I am now happily authoring and burning Blu-Rays using a Pioneer BDR-202 and Sony DVD Architect 5. The change in my process from normal to Blu-Ray has been almost nil bar changing a few properties boxes to tell it that it is a Blu-Ray project.

Well done Sony!

I have decided to go with the LG GGW-H20L. It seems like the current Best Value. $269 at newegg and gets good reviews.

David Sands August 12th, 2008 07:10 PM

now down to $249.00 and that includes a BD-RE disc while they last.
