Blu-ray Disc question

A few years ago, if I burned a DVD-r, it wouldn't always play on most DVD players (it's pretty much not an issue today). I'd have to find a place to create a DVD-9 to be able to have complete compatibility. Those are the discs Hollywood studios use to create DVDs we buy and rent.

Today, it seems that BD-r's don't play on all Blu-ray players; what would be the equivalent to DVD-9 for Blu-ray Discs? What the Hollywood studios use to create BDs?

Thanks,

Heath

Apples and anteaters. Results are the same but the cause and resolution can be different. Microcode/firmware updates with older DVD players is not particularly common but are prevalent with BD players. New firmware has solved many user BD player compatibility issues, but not all.

This might give you some insight.

I actually have no idea how the studios make BDs, but I'd guess it's similar to the way their DVD are created. They're not burned like DVD-Rs or BD-Rs.

Thanks very much. I did some snooping: BD-ROM, but I also saw that a bunch of players support BD-R.
