We didn't get DVD recorders until 2001 in the form of computers and regular recorder/players until, what, 2002/2003? I think we'll see HD-DVD/Blu-Ray recorders sooner in both computers and set-top players.

We should be seeing recorders hitting the market at the same time as the players. TDK just announced blank BD-R discs for the US market. With several companies producing them right off the bat, I don't think they'll be able to justify their super-high "early adopter" price for long.
