How is the Tokina 11-16mm on the C300

Loving the C300, as soon as I tested this camera at the shop I bought one. This will be perfect for all the commercial projects that I'm shooting.

I have been using the Canon L series 16-35mm on the 5D and I'm finding on the C300 due to the crop that this is not wide enough for me in certain situations.

Is anyone using the Tokina 11-16mm? and if so what and how are your results.

Cheers

I can't answer your question directly as I own neither the Tokina 11-16mm nor the C300 (I'm potentially considering the later - if my budget can stretch that far this summer).

There is some info on this C300 thread:

http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/new-cano...n-10-22mm.html

Also, on an older thread about "what lenses for the C300" on here, someone posted that Canon's PIC system on the C300 works with the Tokina 11-16mm (i.e. giving much less corner darkening/vignetting than would otherwise occur) and that they were happy with the combination.

I also noticed this morning when reading Paul Joy's blog that he used this lens with his C300 recently - well worth a read and watching the resulting film. Maybe if Paul sees this he can add some good info regarding this lens:

Failing that, I'm sure someone who uses/owns both items will pipe up with their experiences in detail soon enough!

I've not used the Tokina 11-16mm on the C300.

People speak very highly of this lens but I've yet to try it out.

What I have is a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM which looks brilliant.

Very sharp and no vignetting.

The Tokina is the faster lens at f2.8 but also more expensive.

Re: How is the Tokina 11-16mm on the C300

I have this lens for use on my 7D and my son's T2i. I also have the Canon 10-22. I prefer the Canon for stills (because of the USM AF) and the Tokina for video (because of the constant f/2.8).

Two related options:

1) There is a new version from Tokina

2) Duclos has a highly modified version of this lens designed for video use. This one is high dollar, but it should be perfect for the C300. The fact that they would go to these lengths speaks highly of the Tokina for video use.

Wow! I just checked the Duclos Lenses website. Their extensively modified version of the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 (PL, Canon, or Nikon mounts) has a 5 to 6 month wait.

At least that gives you time to save up the $3,495.00 that they charge for them!

The Canon 10-20mm looks good which I might check out although here is Australia it's still got a steep price attached.

I'll try and find a Tokina 11-16mm to compare to the Canon 10-20mm.

I see this is an old thread but I have an answer.

I used the Tokina 11-16 on the C300 this weekend on a music video shoot. It was beautiful. I think it uses a little wider FOV than on my 60D and only has the slightest bit of vignetting on the right side.

Useful info. I think (from memory) C300 is 1.53x "crop factor" compared to 1.6x with the crop Canons - in 35mm "speak".

I ended up staying with the Canon L series 16-35mm on the C300. If I need that bit "wider look and fee'l I grab the 5D and shoot with that.

The Tokina 11-16mm is a super-wide. It's a great lens, I use it a lot. There are a few shots taken with it on a C300 in this video (it starts 30 seconds in):

There is a new version of the lens although it is not clear if there are optical improvements besides the a new Nikon oriented auto-focus system.

Tokina 11-16mm is an awesome lens and I love it,
but when there is enough light i shoot with 10-22mm Canon, it's only 1mm on paper, but it is noticeably wider.

Did you get the camera from Lemac?
